We went camping this October as a family as one last time to be together before my daughter headed out. It was a fun experience, yet I learned that I could be much more organized. We were making a Dutch oven dinner and dessert. I found that all the various items I needed were in different containers, on different tables. Often we were turning around asking where this and that was. It made things a bit more tedious than it needed to be.
Keeping you and your family safe does not necessarily have to do with having the best gear. Self-defense knowledge and weapons are certainly helpful. A good security system can help you feel safer at home. However, one single most important skill that can save your life above any gear you may have is learning the Art of Situational Awareness. Bottling food is the best! It’s a great way to preserve food from your garden, jam the berries in season, or even store up meats for stews. Who doesn’t love homemade salsa right out of the jar? It can last for years and you can save your favorite foods and know exactly what is in them.

So I’ve tried waxing cheese, but I’ve also heard of canning cheese. One thing I love about the idea of canning cheese is that I don’t have to check as often and rotate it like my waxed cheese.
My personal philosophy is: DIVERSITY is key when it comes to preparing. For me, this means having several different kinds of food storage (freeze dried, dehydrated, home bottled, store canned, etc), Self-protection, Medical preps and First Aid, and so forth.
